Richard Edward Brewer Our first qualified Skipper

Richard Edward Brewer, the eldest son of Mr. Richard Brewer, skipper of MFV Copious, gained his Class 2 skipper's ticket via the School.
The School had obtained funding for three crew to undertake the training at South Tyneside College.
It took Richard approximately a year to complete his studies.
"It was hard going" said Richard, "we planned the time off I needed from fishing to attend the course but I found that there was a lot of self study required, most of the subjects were not taught lessons.
It was great that I could turn to the fishing school in Whitby for more support. They supplied some of the study materials that I needed and I have no doubt that the extra tuition I received helped me pass the qualification".
The skipper of Copious, Mr. Richard Brewer said
"Richard has taken time off to gain qualifications to take the family vessel. Richard and young people like him will become the next generation of fishermen. We are pleased with the support from the Whitby Fishing School, their reputation for training our up and coming Apprentices continues to grow and skippers along the north east coast are in full support of them".
